Queenstown District Synod Report

Queenstown District Synod Report May 2010

It was with great joy and excitement that the people of Dimbaza Circuit 308, received the delegates to Synod. They were so well-organised, professional and friendly that one would have thought that running a synod was second nature to them and not that they are a newly born circuit, birthed only in January 2010!! Congratulations for a task excellently done to the people of Dimbaza!!

Bishop Noqayi’s theme of “Behold I make all things new” was the perfect match with a community learning to take baby steps as a new circuit. The Bishop’s address was a message of challenge and hope.

The Soccer World Cup made its appearance too!! “Feel it, it is here!”

God is making things new in our country; the challenges to all of us remain real and often overwhelming. The Church is called to fight injustice, to fight the growing gap between the rich and the poor, between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’, starting within our own church.

Methodist people are needed to change society where they live and work.

The Bishop’s challenge was clear- it is time to give the Church back to God, let God reform it from weakness to strength, the Church is not ours, it belongs to God! To also use the words of Ghandi “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Three candidates were received to be trained for the ministry. The synod was deeply blessed by the powerful testimonies of the four ordinands as well.

Each morning was begun with challenging Bible studies led by Rev. M.L.Qwabaza, the CEO of the Provincial Council of Churches in the Eastern Cape.

Synod was heartbroken to hear of the passing of Rev. Mzingisi Alla, a probationer minister in the district.

Hearts were warmed and inspired as various societies shared their mission projects and the success that God has allowed in reaching out.

Synod worked through many resolutions efficiently and with integrity and was able to rise in time to watch the Bulls leave the Stormers in the dust – despite the Bishop’s prediction to the contrary!!!
