Mozambique Synod Report

Mozambique – “Together transmitting Christ for healing and transformation of nations”

By Rev. Maria Mucamba

Thursday May 27, 2010 was the beginning of the 28th Synod of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa in the District of Mozambique, in Matutuine's Circuit.

The theme was “Together Transmitting Christ for Healing and Transformation of Nations”. This theme was inspired by the big challenges that our district is going through.

Bishop Mabone said, “Our continent and the world in general, are plunged into a sea of problems. We encounter diseases that kill, for example HIV/AIDS, malaria, and TB. There are accidents in the streets, and we as Christians must drive defensively, responsibly and  respect life. The world needs us, we are the salt and light.”

Some resolutions passed at Synod include:

The synod deliberated the necessity of having 2 mini-synods a year to deal with delicate issues so that the annual synod needs only to  analyse and approve.

Synod adopted a resolution to create Activist Statutes and proposed to Conference to include an “Activist Department” in the L& D.

The Synod approved the names of Revs Lidia Chihau, Hilario Combe, Fernando Chissumba to be ordained at 2010  Conference.

30 delegates underwent HIV testing, and 58 gave blood to help those in need. Many delegates wished to be tested, but there were not enough testing kits. Another day was arranged for more testing.

The next Synod will be held by Mavalana Circuit.
